Housing Initiatives
Nationally, we are in a housing crisis.
Nationally, we are in a housing crisis.
Locally, we cannot wait, we must address this crisis. Rents are too high, home affordability is non existent. The time is NOW, not next month, not next year, but NOW. We must provide housing solutions for present residents to stay in our community and to attract new residents to our community.
In today’s economy, the high cost of housing, interest rates, utilities, taxes, home maintenance and repair is out of reach for many. Older persons wanting to downsize have few options that don’t require major renovations. Younger generations have lost the dream of home ownership and many have a sense of no hope for the future. Multi-generational living is back, not because of desire but because of need. Homelessness is at an all time high and without affirmative action it’s going to get worse.
SAL will engage in collaborative partnerships with relevant stakeholders to procure land, create comprehensive development plans, and implement essential tools and programs.
Through partnerships SAL will produce a range of housing concepts, in order to create homes and spaces for our community that are based on best practices for building accessible homes.
Small affordable/attainable, eco-friendly, net zero ready housing is the primary housing focus of the SAL housing initiative. In addition SAL, working with municipal, provincial, and federal decision makers will introduce its concept of ‘SOLUTIONS FOR ATTAINABLE LIVING’ that can house the unhoused, and provide small spaces in simple structures with simple supports.
